MAASTRICHT – Snow and slippery conditions caused 12 accidents in South Limburg on Thursday. Several people suffered slight injuries, police reported.

Most of the collisions only caused minor damage. The accidents took place in Hoensbroek, Maastricht and on the A2 near Maastricht Aachen Airport late last night and this morning.

The Limburg village of Vijlen was surprised on Thursday morning with the first snowfall of the year. The blanket of snow lent the hilly landscape a wintery countenance. The village of Vijlen, located at a somewhat higher altitude than the rest of the Netherlands, usually gets the country's first snow.
