THE HAGUE – The Liberal VVD faction in Parliament says the cabinet should reprimand Amsterdam mayor Job Cohen for not sticking to agreements on reporting information on illegal aliens that are not eligible for amnesty. The faction is urging that Cohen be issued an administrative reprimand.

"It is a stern measure, but we think it is necessary to get this mayor back on track," a spokesperson for the VVD faction said on Wednesday. In written questions to the state secretary of justice and the home affairs minister MP Halbe Zijstra requested an administrative reprimand.

The VVD is incensed that Cohen told weekly Elsevier that he will only pass on information about illegal aliens to the justice department if the alien in question gives permission for this. In an accord reached with state secretary Albayrak the municipalities pledged to help as much as possible with tackling illegal aliens who are not eligible for amnesty.
