Clients must confirm prostitute credentials
Men visiting some prostitutes in the Netherlands will first have to call a hotline to confirm that the woman is neither underage nor a victim of people trafficking.
Not doing so will be a criminal offence under measures being proposed by Justice Minister Ivo Opstelten. The plans mostly concern prostitutes who work independently; people visiting licensed brothels will not have to make the confirmation calls.
Pass The government and MPs have been looking to tackle problems in the sex sector, including exploitation and people trafficking. Plans to introduce ID cards for licensed prostitutes came up against too much opposition, but a majority of MPs appears to support Mr Opstelten’s present proposal.
The details of the scheme have yet to be worked out but the minister describes it as “an excellent system”. Clients will not have to give their names, but will only have to check whether the prostitute in question is registered or not.http://cdn.radionetherlands.nl/data/files/wallen-amsterdam-anp.jpg
