THE HAGUE – Justice Minister Ernst Hirsch Ballin wants more means of cracking down on illegal gamblers. He has sent new draft legislation to Parliament.

The proposed bill will replace the outdated Betting and Gaming Act from 1964. The aim will continue to be to fight gambling addiction by permitting gambling at certain locations and under strict conditions.

The minister also wants the new law to provide for a regulatory authority to supervise the gambling market. This authority would also be in charge of granting permits and revoking them if necessary.
