EDE – Dairy producer Friesland Foods is bringing out a hot chocolate pad that can be used in Senseo coffee machines. The company announced this on Tuesday.

Hot chocolate will be the third warm drink available from the Senseo. The pads do not contain a powder, but a special chocolate concentrate.

The new patented product will be in shops next week. Tea pads, the last warm drink product that Friesland Foods introduced for the Senseo, was not much of a success, a spokesperson for the company admitted.

"But in retrospect making tea is not all that labour intensive," he says. "Making hot chocolate requires a lot of effort, as does making coffee."

Research by Friesland Foods shows that the Dutch are drinking more and more hot chocolate. Consumption of the old fashioned treat reportedly rose more than 12 percent in 2006.
