AMSTERDAM — A swimming pool was closed down in Amsterdam on Tuesday after 15 children became ill while in the water.
They became nausea and four of the children vomited while swimming in the Sportfondsenbad on Fronemanstraat in the east of the city on Tuesday morning. Nine of the children were taken to hospital as a precaution during the course of the day, the health authority GGD said.
The pool was evacuated at about 10am, but an expert in dangerous substances could not detect anything unusual in the water, the Fire Department said. A specialist company was called in to do further tests.
Two children were taken immediately by ambulance from the pool to hospital. They were released a short time later and returned to school. The others were examined in the school by GGD medics and seven children were sent to hospital as a precaution.
The Sportfondsenbad remains closed until further order.
