THE NETHERLANDS -- Dutch Agriculture Minister Gerda Verburg opened a biomass power station which will convert a third of all chicken manure in the Netherlands into green energy on Wednesday.
The power produced by the plant in Moerdijk near Rotterdam should supply about 90,000 Dutch homes with electricity.
Manure from chickens is drier and easier to process.
The plant will use only a small amount of the total manure produced in the Netherlands, most of which comes from cows and pigs.
