Education centres which offer citizenship courses have too few participants and are on the brink of going bankrupt.

THE NETHERLANDS - Educational centres are threatening to stop offering citizenship courses.

The Vocational Education Council, which represents Dutch regional education centres, says that the course providers sometimes receive only one tenth the number of participants agreed with local councils.

Because the centres and providers must pay for classrooms, computers and course leaders, the lack of participants has left many of them seriously in debt. The vocational education council says that several centres have gone bankrupt.
