Cement eliminates vertebrae pain
The St Elisabeth Hospital in Tilburg has developed a method to eliminate the pain experienced by patients suffering from collapsed or broken vertebrae.
The hospital has conducted extensive tests with a special kind of medical ‘cement’. In a press release, the hospital says this is the first time the positive effects of the treatment have been scientifically proved.
Each year, the St Elisabeth Hospital treats between 150 and 200 patients suffering from broken or collapsed vertebrae as a result of osteoporosis. Doctors inject the medical cement directly into the affected vertebrae. The hospital says that nine out of every 10 patients are immediately free of pain after the treatment.
