Caro Emerald is MTV's Best Dutch and Belgian Act

Dutch singer Caro Emerald has emerged as the Best Dutch and Belgian Act in the European Music Awards contest of music station MTV. Her competitors in this category included The Opposites, Waylon, Stromae and The Van Jets.

Hearing of her election, Ms Emerald said, "Wow, wow, wow! I'm shaking all over, I can't believe it yet. Thanks a million to all of you who voted, this is really mad!"

A conservatory-trained jazz vocalist, Caro Emerald Caroline Esmeralda van der Leeuw has released one album, and has had two hit singles. Her music is described by reviewers as a cinematic mix of swing, mambo, rumba and lounge, and her voice as big and rich.

In the next round of the MTV contest, Caro Emerald will face 20 other artists who are competing for the title of Best European Act.
