AMSTERDAM — An autopsy has established that a Canadian man, 56, who was found dead in a popular Amsterdam hostel on Saturday was killed by blows to the head.
Police investigating the killing could not give news agency ANP details about the type of the beating inflicted.
The Canadian and a British man, 52, who was arrested, were both guests in the Stayokay hostel in Amsterdam's Vondelpark. Sources have claimed that the Briton has made a partial confession in relation to the death.
The suspect reported to the reception in the hostel at 6.30pm on Saturday that a seriously injured man was lying in one of the rooms. When police arrived they found the victim, who was lying in a pool of blood, was dead.
The Briton has admitted being involved in the killing but police are still trying to establish the circumstances.
Some people staying at the hostel said the two men had been drinking together earlier on Saturday.
