'Camp Holland' will continue to exist
The former Dutch base near Takin Kowt in the Afghan province of Uruzgan will continue to be known as Camp Holland. UK General Nick Philip Carter of the southern ISAF command, took the decision out of respect and gratitude to the Dutch forces and their efforts in the province of Uruzgan.
ISAF informed the Dutch defence ministry of the decision on Monday; General Carter was unable to attend the transfer of command at Camp Holland on Sunday.
The Dutch base near the provincial capital, built in 2006, is also known as Multinational Base Tarin Kowt, because other nations have troops stationed there as well.
A spokesperson for the defence ministry said the Dutch name plate will be taken back to the Netherlands. It is not yet known what will take its place.
