Call for bad lawyer internet register

The chair of the Amsterdam Bar says consumers should be able to consult an internet register to see which lawyers have been censured by a disciplinary tribunal and why. Germ Kemper said that the current law governing the privacy of personal details should be adjusted to make this possible. He issued a statement confirming his remarks on Saturday following the publication of an article in the daily newspaper .

"The public should have a better understanding and be able to choose," Mr Kemper said. Currently, judgements by disciplinary bodies are only published anonymously. Mr Kemper wants to see those who have been disciplined mentioned by name. " It is in the interests of the consumer that they are able to see just who they are approaching."

Mr Kemper said he has been trying within the Amsterdam Bar for years to set up such a register, but has never been successful.
