Cabinet wants to prosecute pedo priests
Prime Minister Mark Rutte has announced that the cabinet will investigate whether there are possibilities to prosecute Catholic paedophile priests after all.
About 100 of the priests who are known to have been involved in child sex abuse are still alive. They cannot be prosecuted because the statute of limitations on their crimes has expired.
However, Mr Rutte said he would investigate what is legally possible, also depending on European rules.
The prime minister emphasised that it would not be easy to accomplish, but said it was nevertheless his ambition to bring these priests to trial.
