Cabinet sticks to development aid norm

The Netherlands will not deviate from the internationally agreed norm of earmarking 0.7 percent of GDP for development aid.

During the parliamentary debate on his budget for 2012, Deputy Development Aid Minister Ben Knapen said that the CDA Christian democrats / VVD conservatives would not deviate from the international norm for the whole of its term in office.

Opposition parties D66 Democrats and the Green Left Party urged the deputy minister to provide clarity after the Freedom Party, which supports the cabinet in parliament, announced that any additional cuts would have to come out of the development aid budget.
