THE NETHERLANDS - Senior managers have threatened to leave The Netherlands if the fuss about their salaries continues, according to a book "With Their Hands In The till”.

The book by De Volkskrant journalist Xander van Uffelen is published on Friday.

In the book, the journalist quotes Royal Dutch Shell's chief executive officer Jeroen van der Veen, who earned EUR 9.4 million in 2007.

The head of Royal Dutch Shell says that people should realise that Shell is one of the world's five largest companies: "Either you have a headquarters and accept as part of the bargain that large numbers of people earn high salaries, or you don't. I've noticed there is very little understanding for the needs of a large company. I find this disturbing."

Other chief executive officers interviewed in the book also said they were considering moving their headquarters to another country.
