AMSTERDAM — A seven-year-old boy sexually abused two female classmates for at least six months, Dutch educational officials have confirmed.
The incidents at 'De Werkschuit' primary school in the northeastern city of Zwolle came to light in June. The school advised the parents of the victims to report the matter to the police, but they decided not to.
The boy allegedly threatened the girls and the abuse may have taken place since October 2005.
The school confirmed to the media that the case involved unacceptable sexual behaviour without going into detail. "They were acts that went beyond the exploratory behaviour normal at this age," according to Chris te Riele, prevention officer with the regional institute for mental welfare (RIAGGz).
The boy is still attending the same school. "We have to take account of the law on compulsory education. In addition we have taken steps to increase supervision and the sense of safety in the school," Henk Norder of the education council for Zwolle said.
The parents and the children involved have been offered professional help and the situation is reviewed daily.
