Police divers have found one body in the Amsterdam-Rhine canal, near the place where a ferry was overturned when it was hit by a German cargo ship early this morning.

The victim has not been officially identified, but is thought to be the captain of the boat as he was the only person on board at the time of the accident and is still missing.

The ship normally carries large numbers of schoolchildren but this week is an autumn school holiday. The ship was supposedly going to pick up its first passengers when the accident happened.

The cause of the collision is still not known. The captain of the German cargo ship is being questioned by police.
