Train line linking Rotterdam to the German border sees increase in frequency of trains since Sunday.

THE NETHERLANDS - From Sunday, four trains an hour will be able to travel in both directions on the Betuwelijn, the freight-only train line linking Rotterdam to the German border.

Until now, owing to tests on safety systems, it was only possible for one train to travel in each direction every 90 minutes. This limited the traffic to a maximum of 80 trains a week.

That number will now increase to 180 trains per week. By 2010, it's hoped that 600 trains a week will use the line and that the developer will be able to break even by 2012.
