UDEN  - Bed manufacturer Beter Bed from Uden is recalling 1,300 Chinese-made mattresses that may contain toxic materials. A spokesperson for the manufacturer in Uden announced this on Friday.

The company is recalling the 'Slow Foam 300' mattresses which were sold at its subsidiary company De Beddenreus. An unknown quantity is still in stock at stores and will not be sold. "Customers who bought this mattress at our shops can return it for a refund," said spokesperson Richard Neve.

The mattresses come from the same manufacturer as a shipment that was intercepted in Rotterdam. Inspection of the mattresses found that they contained a combination of toxic substances, including carcinogenic dichloroethane and benzene, VPRO programme Argos has reported.
