Rotterdam – One of the rioters at a beach party in Hook of Holland that left a man dead has turned himself in after police showed photos of 10 suspects on a TV programme on Tuesday evening.

The rioter who was also featured in the pictures has been arrested and taken into custody at a police station in Capelle aan den Ijssel, east of Rotterdam.

Since Opsporing Verzocht has been aired, the police have received 31 tips.

The police are still expecting to receive more calls as the phone lines were jammed for some time after the transmission.

A 19-year-old man was shot dead by police during the rioting at the free Sunset Grooves party on the beach at Hook of Holland. A small group of officers were surrounded and attacked by hooligans.

The police has been criticised for allegedly deploying too few riot police at the event due to cutbacks, despite tip-offs that hooligans were planning to make trouble.

On Monday the police arrested two men in connection with the rioting. The two, a 25-year-old man from Rozenburg and 19-year-old man from Leiden, were taken to a police station in Rotterdam and detained for further investigation. Eleven other suspects have been arrested, seven of whom are still in custody.
