AMSTERDAM — The beach municipality of Bloemendaal has rejected a proposal to use a contract security company to patrol residential areas 24-hours a day to improve public safety.

A large majority of the council members voted against the plan which was put forward by local party Liberaal Bloemendaal. The party claimed that a large number of residents no longer felt safe because police patrols have been reduced due to economising measures.
