Bargain takeovers in Netherlands
Companies from emerging economies will probably try to take over small Dutch stock exchange listed businesses.
Maarten Hartog from investment company Teslin made this statement on Tuesday at an Amsterdam press meeting. “We are looking at the low prices of some stocks with some concern, as they increase the chances of takeovers. Companies from for instance China or Russia can now acquire a foothold in Europe by taking over a healthy Dutch business.”
An example of such a potential takeover is the bid that Mexican company Mexichem made on pipes manufacturer Wavin. “Their bid includes a 50 percent bonus on the current share price. That would seem like a lot, but still be a bargain because the price of Wavin’s shares has plummeted as the result of the weak Dutch housing market.”
