AMSTERDAM - The 42-year-old Amsterdam barber who stabbed a customer with his scissors last month will remain in custody for the time being. The court in Amsterdam has decided to extend his pre-trial detention by 90 days.

A 28-year-old man was seriously wounded as a result of the stabbing. He underwent emergency surgery and is no longer in danger for his life. Police say the incident probably ensued from a heated argument over a pair of glasses.

This was not the first time that the barber lost his temper. In 2000 he stabbed a customer so severely with his scissors that the man died. The court acquitted the barber at the time because he was acting in self defence.

The examining judge had already ordered the man to undergo a behavioural examination.
