Following a meeting on Friday, Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende and Deputy Prime Minister Wouter Bos have announced that the cabinet intends to fight the credit crisis with "unorthodox measures."

THE NETHERLANDS - Although neither man discussed any concrete actions, Mr Bos did say that everything would be considered, from private homes to old age pensions.

Mr Balkenende also warned of the danger of protectionism.

He said while many countries were thinking first of themselves during the current crisis, such an approach was counter-productive.
