THE NETHERLANDS - The Dutch travelling theatre festival De Parade is experiencing financial difficulties, with bad weather and the European football championships both responsible for poor attendance.

The festival lost money in The Hague and Rotterdam, where visitor numbers were particularly disappointing.

Revenues were slightly better in Utrecht, but the organisers say that the Amsterdam performances will have to be sold out for the festival to be a financial success.

De Parade, now in its 18th year, showcases Dutch theatre and provides a venue for experimental work. It is not subsidised by the culture ministry and is almost entirely dependent on box office revenue.
