BREDA (ANP) – The court ordered on Thursday that American suspect Carlos H. (41) be held in custody for 90 days on suspicion of the murder of a 22-year-old student at Roosendaal station almost two weeks ago. A spokesperson for the court in Breda has reported this.

The man from Bergen op Zoom was attacked and killed with an axe in the waiting area of the station on the evening of Saturday 8 September. The suspect was arrested nearby. He has given police a confession.

The man is reportedly disturbed because of problems from his childhood. He has stated that he was in fact trying to kill a Dutch commando from the military barracks in Roosendaal because of his dissatisfaction with the political and military actions of the Netherlands in aid of the US in Iraq. When his original plan failed he selected a victim at random.

H.'s mental condition will soon be examined at the Pieter Baan psychiatric centre.
