Australian drugs haul - Dutch man held
A Dutch citizen has been arrested in Sydney Australia on suspicion of smuggling drugs. Besides the 43-year-old Dutch man, a Belgian national and two Australians are also being held.
Following raids in Sydney and Perth, federal police confiscated 239 kilos of methamphetamine, a drug commonly known as crystal meth. The authorities are calling it the biggest drugs haul in Australian history.
The street value of the drugs is estimated to be about 37 million euros. The police say drugs traffickers are interested in Australia because of the high value of the Australian dollar.
Most of the drugs were found in a van in Clovelly, a suburb of Sydney. During the raids, police also came across a semi-automatic weapon which had the registration number filed off.
