Ash cloud threatens Holland return flight
The Dutch national football team may not be able to take their scheduled flight back to the Netherlands on Thursday, because of a volcanic ash cloud hovering towards the capital of Uruguay.
On Saturday, Chile’s Puyehue volcano exploded, unleashing a massive ash cloud that’s now reached the skies over Buenos Aires. Air traffic has been seriously hampered by the ash, pushed eastwards by strong winds in the direction of Montevideo.
There, Holland are to play Uruguay on Wednesday as part of a ten-day Latin America tour, that was supposed to end with a flight to Sao Paolo at 15:00 local time the next day. Now, that flight has become uncertain. It’s a cause for serious concern, Holland coach Bert van Marwijk told journalists at an informal press gathering the day before the match.
