AMSTERDAM — Four police cars were set on fire in Loosdrecht on Thursday morning, but the extent of the damage has not been revealed by police.
In the past year a total of 19 police vehicles have been destroyed in similar attacks in the Gooi-en Vechtstreek region.
The latest fire was detected at 3.30am on Thursday. Police said the fire brigade was able to prevent the blaze spreading to nearby buildings. Several detectives have been assigned to the case.
The arson attacks in the region started in April last year when a police vehicle in Muiden was burnt. A week later, three vehicles in Nederhorst den Berg were targeted.
Two more police vehicles were attacked and set on fire in Muiden in May 2004. The worst attack occurred mid-September when nine cars were destroyed in Weesp.
There were several other attacks on police cars, vans and motorbikes in other parts of the country.
