AMSTERDAM — Several people were arrested on Wednesday following the discovery of a woman's body in a car in the town of Oostvoorne the night before.

The authorities refused to say how many people had been arrested or who they are. "We are nevertheless treating this as a crime. The woman's body exhibits signs of violence," a police spokesperson said.

The body was found in the car parked on the Krabbeweg in Oostvoorne at about 9.30pm.

The police spokesperson declined to identify the dead woman until the suspects are questioned. She said there was no link with a similar case in 2005 when a human body was found in a burning car in Oostvoorne.

A week earlier another body was found in a burning car in Barendrecht. Neither case has been solved.
