ARNHEM – Arnhem mayor Pauline Krikke will talk with representatives of the Turkish community in Arnhem on Monday about the unrest between Turks and Kurds. On Sunday Krikke met with representatives from the Kurdish association in Arnhem.

The mayor is asking Kurds and Turks in the city to stay calm. "She also wants to know what the feelings are and the state of relations between the communities," said a spokesperson for the municipality. Arnhem has a relatively large Kurdish population.

On Saturday night there was a second attempt to set fire to the building that houses the Kurdish association. The damage was limited and no one was injured. Last week on Wednesday the building was also the target of an arson attempt.

Several dozen Turks demonstrated on the Korenmarkt on Sunday. The demonstration took place without incident.
