Armed robbery upsets Amsterdam traffic

An unknown robber has caused a traffic chaos in Amsterdam early on Saturday morning. Police in the Dutch capital closed off the Damrak artery road between the Central Station and Dam Square after a hotel in the city reported an armed hold-up. A police spokesperson declined to name the hotel.

For some time it was assumed that the attacker was still inside the building, but that proved not to be the case. The thief or thieves appear to have got away. Meanwhile, all of the hotel's guests had been moved out of their rooms to other accommodation.

The road block was lifted by police when they had completed their investigations. It is not known whether the robber or robbers actually stole anything. No-one was injured.
