AMSTERDAM – “Rotterdam 2007 gives an outlook on the future by presenting new talents, new ideas, and new ways of making films.” With these words festival director Sandra den Hamer opened the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) on Wednesday.
After Den Hamer’s welcome speech, the invited guests watched the festival’s opening film, La Antena, Esteban Sapir’s work on the power of media and television in particular.
The Argentine filmmaker was present at the screening. At the same time Werner Herzog’s film Rescue Dawn was shown on two other screens. Headlining actor Jeremy Davies attended this public opening of the film.
The festival runs until 4 February. Rotterdam will host 44 world premieres, 23 international premieres (films that have only been shown locally so far) and 30 European premieres of feature length films. The Prestige from Christopher Nolan will close the film screenings on 3 February.
