29 April 2005 , AMSTERDAM — The month of April was very mild, sunny and wet with the mercury failing to reach the freezing point in De Bilt, where the Dutch meteorological bureau KNMI is based.

AMSTERDAM — The month of April was very mild, sunny and wet with the mercury  failing to reach the freezing point in De Bilt, where the Dutch meteorological bureau KNMI is based.

Only local freezes were reported in the past four weeks as the average temperature came out at a warm 10.3 degrees Celsius, two degrees more than normal.

KNMI said the first official warm day of the year was measured on 3 April at Eindhoven, where the temperature rose to 22.5 degrees.

With an average 195 hours of sun, April was an above-average sunny month. The long-term record is 162, newspaper 'De Telegraaf' reported on Friday.

However, it rained more than normal in April 2005. An average of 61mm fell, compared with a long-term average of 43mm.
