AMSTERDAM – Police have arrested the man they believe shot a detective last week in Apeldoorn. The suspect's identity still has to be confirmed but he is purported to be 57-year-old Jovica Trajkovic.

The armed and dangerous man was arrested in Biddinghuizen in the province of Flevoland this morning. Police reportedly cordoned off the area and used helicopters to search for the man.

The suspect is also believed to have threatened three MediaMarkt employees in Zwolle when they tried to stop him for shoplifting.

Police in Apeldoorn announced on Monday that they had received "several dozen tips" on Jovica Trajkovic after publishing a description and photograph of the 57-year-old man on Sunday.

The detective who was shot on Monday last week is no longer in critical condition but is still recovering in hospital. He was in plainclothes at the time but the suspect presumably recognised that he was a police detective and fired a number of shots at him.
