AMSTERDAM - Amsterdam's eighth edition of Museum Night almost sold out on Saturday night with 26,000 visitors as 40 museums opened their doors from 7pm until 2am in the morning.

Museum Night is an annual event held on the first Saturday in November where special, themed events and performances are held at museums throughout the city.

Some of the more popular attractions this year included the Rijksmuseum where Damien Hirst's "For the Love of God" is exhibited. Long queues were seen outside the museum.

On the roof of Science Museum NEMO, Europe's largest lightning generator shot 400 bolts of lightning per second, each containing a million volts.

In the Film Museum, scenes from Bollywood films were shown, while the Van Gogh Museum chose love as its theme.

Next year’s Museum Night will be held on 7 November 2009.
