Amsterdams De Nieuwe Kerk hosts fashion installation
Amsterdam’s De Nieuwe Kerk New Church has been transformed into a shrine dedicated to haute couture.
Amsterdam fashion designer Mart Visser has been appointed De Nieuwe Kerk ‘Church warden’ the church is no longer used for services. From 26 August to 2 October he will present an installation comprising a mix of bridal fashion by trendsetting Dutch fashion designers and works of art by leading visual artists.
The new church warden developed the installation specifically for de Nieuwe Kerk. Mart Visser says he associates De Nieuwe Kerk with marriage because of the royal wedding that took place there in 2002. He added that the bridal gown “is often the designer’s signature piece.”
