Central Station in Amsterdam has re-opened its main front entrance for the first time in seven years. At half past eight this morning, an official ceremony was held to mark the event.

Amsterdam Central Station’s front entrance has been closed due to construction work on the city’s new extended metro system. The building work around the station for the underground is almost complete.

But the some 260,000 rail passengers that pass through the station each day will still have to walk under scaffolding – renovation work on the building’s façade is not yet finished.

The interior of the station is also undergoing a mammoth make-over, including the addition of new shopping halls.
