Amsterdams AEX closes highest for 27 months
Amsterdam’s AEX stock market index ended trading on Tuesday at its highest level since September 2008, when United States bank Lehman Brothers had just filed for bankruptcy.
Europe’s investors appear to be expecting good company results. Bank shares were among today’s winners. The AEX finished 0.7 percent up at 363.73 points. The stock exchanges in Frankfurt, Paris and London were also bullish.
The European markets did not follow the more divided picture in the US. They were not adversely affected by the European Union’s failure to agree an extension of its emergency fund to bail out member states in trouble.
