Around 100 youths in Amsterdam joined a silent march in a show of support for the besieged Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

AMSTERDAM - They walked from a mosque in an immigrant neighbourhood on the outskirts of the city to the centre of the capital, where they released balloons with the colours of the Palestinian flag.

In a speech a spokesperson for the youths said they were outraged by the refusal of the Dutch government to condemn Israel's offensive in Gaza.

In Utrecht several hundred people joined a vigil in the city's main church, the Domkerk, which focussed on the civilian victims of the conflict, both in Gaza and Israel.
