AMSTERDAM - The independent commission investigating Amsterdam's troubled north-south metroline has advised the city council to reinforce the foundations of two of the future metro stations.

Last year, construction work at one station caused several listed monuments to sink by 23 centimetres.

In response, a council spokesperson said Amsterdam had already taken steps to improve safety at the metro stations, noting that walls had been reinforced with support beams at one metro construction site this week.

The Veerman Commission also advised the city council to improve communication with local residents.
