Amsterdam - The Amsterdam police department plans to employ an agency to recruit more women and members of the immigrant community to senior positions within the force.

The move comes in response to Interior Minister Guusje ter Horst who wants women and immigrants to account for 15 percent of police officers within the next two years.

De Telegraaf newspaper reports that the Amsterdam police department is paying the agency EUR 3.2 million, but the police say the figure is pure fantasy.

They say the move is costing much less and point out it is being financed by a special fund for integration provided by the foreign ministry.
