Amsterdam nomintated as World Heritage site
The Dutch government is going to nominate Amsterdam's canals as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
AMSTERDAM - The capital's historic centre, which dates back to 17th century, has been a candidate for some time.
It will take at least 18 months before the UN office in Paris takes a decision.
The World Heritage list comprises some 1,000 cultural and natural sites, including the Grand Canyon, the Taj Mahal and the pyramids of Egypt.
The list already includes seven Dutch buildings and locations.
