Amsterdam gets hundreds of electric hire cars
The Dutch capital is set to have over 300 electric cars for hire by the end of the year. Car2go boss Robert Henrich and Amsterdam Councillor Eric Wiebes signed a deal to co-operate on the scheme on Monday.
Drivers will be able to locate one of the Smart Fortwo electric-powered cars using a smartphone or by phoning a call centre. A plastic membership card and a personal security code will enable them to drive the vehicle away. Mr Henrich said people who rent the cars will not have to worry about running out of power while driving round the city.
A similar Car2go scheme is being introduced in Hamburg in Germany, and one has been up and running for some time in Austin in Texas in the United States.http://cdn.radionetherlands.nl/data/files/4561810169_8982e5878b_0.jpg
