Amsterdam gay bar Soho to reopen

Famous gay bar Soho on Amsterdam's Reguliersdwarsstraat is to reopen in March following a deal between the Heineken brewery and the wife of the bar's late owner Sjoerd Kooistra who owed the brewery tens of millions of euros.

The new owner of gay bar De Arc - also on Reguliersdwarsstraat - has announced his establishment will reopen soon as well.

Reguliersdwarsstraat, which links Koningsplein to Rembrandtplein, has been the heart of the Amsterdam gay scene since the 1980s. However, many of its famous bars and clubs were closed in the past year, one of the main reasons being the collapse of Kooistra's business empire. He owned many of the bars on Reguliersdwarsstraat.

On Sunday, Heineken said it was still engaged in negotiations about gay discotheque Club Exit, also on Reguliersdwarsstraat.
