Amsterdam evicts more squats
The Public Prosecutor's Office announced today that it has sent letters to a large number of squats in the centre of Amsterdam warning the occupants that they will be evicted within eight weeks.
The Public Prosecutor maintains that everyone living or staying in the squats is guilty of trespass. The occupants do have the option of appealing against the eviction order.
A policy paper by the Council of Attorneys General, which went into effect on 1 December 2010, makes criminal evictions possible once again. This closes a loophole in the anti-squatting law introduced by the Dutch government in October last year.
