Amsterdam does not help the poor find work
Slotervaart official Ahmed Marcouch criticises Amsterdam’s anti-poverty policy.7 November 2008
AMSTERDAM - The chairman of the Amsterdam Slotervaart district Ahmed Marcouch says Amsterdam's anti-poverty policy is non-committal and causes people to be dependent on assistance. He made his remarks at a poverty conference in the Amsterdam district.
Marcouch said free services and food banks do not encourage people to find work. He said there are children who did not know a single working father or mother on their street. The Labour politician said this leads children to think that work is not necessary.
