Amsterdam Crusaders reach European Cup semi-final with win over Oslo Vikings.

Cru QB Claudio Bartolozzi led the team to two first downs before finding WR Etienne Lof in the corner of the endzone with just two minutes gone. Ronald Hein’s PAT gave the home team a 07-00 lead.

The preparation of the Amsterdam defense would then be tested.  Several times, the Vikings would move the ball into Crusader territory only to be turned back by the swarming Cru defenders, who also managed to deliver their offense a short field on several occasions which they were not able to exploit.  At halftime the score remained 07-00.

The Crusaders turned more to the running game in the second half with RBs Rishawd Watson and Marciani Heinze bringing the Crusaders into field goal range once again.  Ronald Hein’s 42 yard FG added three points: 10-00.

Contained for nearly the entire game by the Amsterdam defense, Oslo’s American QB Reed Gottula found countryman Chris Katzmark with a beautiful pass bringing the Oslo offense into the Crusaders red zone. Despite another great performance by the Cru defense, the Oslo QB put the ball over the goal line for their first points of the game and narrowed the score to 10-06.  The  conversion was blocked by the Crusaders.

The Cru needed to stop the Vikings one last time as the visitors regained possession with 47 seconds remaining.  A QB sack sealed their fate and sent the Crusaders through to the semi-finals of the EFAF-Cup for the first time: a wonderful way to celebrate their 25th anniversary.
