Alexander and Maxima visit Australia
Royal couple visit Australia - concluding celebrations of 400 year anniversary of relations between the Dutch and Australians.

AMSTERDAM - Prince Willem-Alexander and Princess Maxima arrived Monday morning at 04.15 hours Dutch time in the Australian capital Canberra. They pay an official visit to Australia from Monday the 23rd up to and including Saturday the 28th of October.
Their travel signifies the high point and at the same time the conclusion of the celebration of the 400 year anniversary of relations between Australia and the Netherlands.
Thereafter the couple will continue their travel and pay an official visit to New Zealand. In two weeks time the couple has more than forty appointments.
Besides the celebration of the relations with Australia, in both countries many more activities and discussions in the areas of integration, ecology and culture are on the programme.
Furthermore, immigrants originally from the Netherlands and their descendants can prepare themselves for several meetings with the future king of their old fatherland and his wife.
The number of people of Dutch origin in Australia is estimated at 270.000 (during the first 25 years after the war 150.000 people went there), and in New Zealand on minimum 50.000.
Prince and Princess actually arrived Saturday in Australia on the island group Whitsunday Island in order to first acclimatise. This island is known for its possibilities to dive and sail and the nightlife.
